24 Days of Happiness - Specialmoves
We love advent calendars. You can have a little treat every day in the run up to Christmas, or save a few up and guzzle them up at once. This year, Specialmoves has created 24 Days of Happiness so you can make your own advent calendar, with a digital twist, all in support of our Christmas charity, Kids Company.
Everyone knows that the best gifts are the thoughtful ones, but that’s a tricky thing to accomplish during the festive season at the best of times, and more often than not you resort to wrestling a pensioner for the last bottle of scented bubble bath in Boots. So we made 24 Days of Happiness, which allows you to make your own digital advent calendar for your loved ones.
Drag in your photos from Facebook or upload them from your machine, to make a calendar of 24 images to send on to friends and family. They can then visit the site to see a new picture revealed every day, or, download a screensaver which reveals each one, a day at a time, according to your computer’s clock.
Creating a screensaver dynamically and having it change according to the date is far from a walk in the park; you need to give the user different content on a daily basis in an application they’ve already downloaded, and make it work for both Mac and PC. The real difficulty, however, was deciding which cat pictures to include as alternatives for users who didn’t have enough of their own photos. Take a look for yourself and decide on your favourite – we reckon it’s a toss-up between number 11 and number 24.
On Christmas Day, Kids Company will be hosting 3,500 vulnerable children who have nowhere else to go. If you enjoy creating and sharing a calendar, please donate a couple of pounds, or whatever you can afford, via the Kids Company link on the website. Most importantly though, enjoy!
